The sky was alive over Atwater on Tuesday, July 15th as the Atwater Fire Department and Ambulance received training and an inside look at the Life Link III helicopter. Atwater’s emergency personnel are trained in the procedures for setting up the landing area and communicating with the pilot for a safe landing at accident scenes. Treacherous and unknown weather or location can create an unstable environment; which needs to be handled by trained emergency personnel and leadership to maintain a central command and provide a safe environment for all parties involved at an accident scene.
In July of 2013 Life Link III moved its regional helicopter base from Hutchinson to Willmar. This year a new helicopter was delivered; which provides advanced life-saving equipment and provides a larger compartment for patient care. On board are highly trained staff including a Registered Nurse, a highly skilled paramedic, and pilots that have undergone extensive training.
The City of Atwater’s Fire Department and Ambulance crews are dedicated volunteers who continually strive to maintain the highest in protection for our city and surrounding areas. The department’s crew give of themselves in many ways that we may sometimes take for granted. We need to remember how valuable they are to our community.
Being a volunteer firefighter and/or Emergency Medical Technician is a rewarding experience. The department is always looking for new members. Please consider becoming a part of our team.
